Angela Annas, M.Ed., M.S.W., LCSW
Therapist
Responsive, client-centered services are my specialty. I want for you what I want for myself. Flexibility, creativity, focused listening and care in a variety of settings. I have experience in a multitude of educational and psychological issues including relationship counseling, effective parenting, depression, anxiety, grief, self esteem, coping with disability, chronic pain and illness, and psychosis. I also enjoy working with couples interested in strengthening their relationships. Relationships give meaning to life and for most people, fill basic human needs. When functioning optimally, relationships can help us achieve happiness and fulfillment.
Each of us is a hero /heroine discovering how to make peace with our dragons and enable our potential. We all have a natural propensity to move toward growth with support and nurturing. Psychoeducation, psychodynamic work, and skills training can develop and optimize our growth and happiness.
I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, and couples, using interests, strengths, and wisdom from your life experiences, rather than fixing on diagnosis as the only prescription for treatment. I welcome diversity and a spiritual focus. The therapeutic relationship is organic and no two will be exactly the same.
BIO
Originally from Roseboro, NC, Angela Annas came to Chapel Hill in 1977 as a freshman at the University of North Carolina (UNC-CH) majoring in journalism. Now, in addition to a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, she holds a Master's degree in Special Education and a Master's degree in Social Work, both from UNC-CH.
Before founding Annas Resources in 1996, she was a developmental disabilities case manager for OPC Mental Health Center, a special education teacher for Wake County Schools, and an educational activities director for the Autism Society of North Carolina. Additional experience was gained through internships with the VA Medical Center as a clinical social worker intern and with Structure House as a therapy intern.
Now she practices as a psychotherapist exclusively, providing emphasis on building her practice, using all the skills and tools acquired through these experiences. She finds the privilege of assisting clients to overcome symptoms and re-narrate their lives to be an honor. |
